According to the original authors, the species is abundant in minerotrophic swamps in the western part of the South Island of New Zealand, but rare in ombrotrophic habitats.

New Caledonia, Costa Rica, and Chile

Also known from New Caledonia, Costa Rica, and Chile.

Etymology

Referring to the ancient southern supercontinent.
