To derive an indicator that allows insight into the state of, as well as pressures and impact on, soil heath, we will improve the database on soil health state by federating attribute datasets relating to similar soil properties. These attributes can then be used in combination with other spatial information to derive indicators for changes in soil health. To do this scientists will initially collate soil attribute data from Landcare Research’s National Soils Database (NSD), the LUCAS soils database and the SINDI / 500 soils database. Data provenance and quality will be recorded in metadata and semantic techniques will be used to integrate data. To characterise spatial representativeness at national scale for derivation of indicators data gaps will also be identified.
