NYMPH: Main diagnostic characters

Immature stink bugs or nymphs moult through five stages (instars) before becoming adults; the fifth stage or last instar nymph is shown below.

Image 1:  BODY LENGTH: About 9 mm. COLOUR: Head, thorax, wing pads greenish, lightly outlined with black; antennae black; abdomen greenish (paler in front) with 3 large transverse black plates near midline and thin, elongate, black marks along sides; legs dark.

Image 2:  BODY LENGTH: About 9 mm. COLOUR: Head, thorax, wing pads greenish amber, heavily outlined with black (thorax often nearly completely black); antennae black; abdomen yellowish green with 3 large transverse black plates near midline and oblong dark amber/black markings along sides; legs dark.
