Diagnostic features

Unicellular chlorophyte characterised by tetrahedral or polyhedral cells, with clusters of approx. 3-5 tapering spines radiating from the rounded corners. There is a single cup-shaped green chloroplast with single pyrenoid.

Typical habitats

Found in the plankton of nutrient-rich ponds including sewage ponds
