Diagnostic features

Colonial chlorophyte with spherical cells set in mucilaginous colonies. The crescent-shaped remains of old parent cell walls remain trapped in the colony amongst the living cells. Chloroplasts green, cup-shaped, one per cell, each with a single pyrenoid.
