Update of popular Soils Portal released

The Soils Portal, Pātaka Oneone, is Manaaki Whenua’s website for comprehensive information about New Zealand’s soil resources. It has been running for 15 years, and currently attracts some 40,000 visitors per year.

A major refresh of the Soils Portal has been implemented through a collaboration between MWLR Soils & Landscapes and Informatics teams, and Christchurch-based digital marketing agency Mint Design. The new Soils Portal service was launched on 6 December 2021 as part of the UN World Soil Day celebrations.

The Soils Portal caters for a wide range of users, e.g. land managers, resource managers, teachers and students, in fact, anyone from a soil scientist to a soil ‘beginner’. The refreshed Soils Portal offers improved guidance for all these user groups to better understand and use the wide range of soil information services available. It also features new content, and a ‘soil news’ section.
