The survey has been conducted every other year since 2013. In 2023, there were around 5,200 respondents representing commercial and lifestyle farms, forests, and growing operations, spanning the country from Cape Reinga to Rakiura.
Each year, new questions are added to reflect pressing knowledge gaps for industry, policy makers, and scientists. In 2023, new and expanded topic areas included winter grazing practices, forestry risk, biosecurity, volatility in input and output prices, life satisfaction, disaster preparedness, trustworthiness of advice, and perceptions of the regulatory environment.
These survey data:
- Provide information that complements rather than repeating other surveys
- Incorporate emerging topics of interest
- Enable the delivery of a wide range of analyses and statistical information to support national, regional, and sector policy development and evaluation
- Support research and insight into decision making among farmers, foresters, growers, and lifestyle block owners.
Results are available at the links below. We are now releasing our second information sheet for the 2023 survey. This information sheet focuses on the perceived relevance and trustworthiness of potential sources of advice.
