We are a contributing (year 0-8) school (U1) with a roll of 42 learners. Our decile rating is 8. Our school is situated in a rural district, 20 kilometres west of Balclutha. The Waiwera South community is made up of dairying and sheep farming families and their support industries. We have three classrooms - the Junior Room (year 0-3) where Mrs Ramsay teachers, the Middle Room (year 4&5) where Miss Chapman and Miss Ward (our principal) teach and the Senior Room (year 6-8) where Miss Taylor teaches.
The AHI PEPE | MOTHNET champions for Waiwera South are Alex Sands (yr7), Lachie Crawford (yr8) and their teacher Miss Taylor. They are all very excited about this opportunity and look forward to learning lots of new information!
Hi I'm Alex Sands and I'm a year seven student at Waiwera South School. The teachers chose me to go to MothNet and I feel very lucky to be a Champion, doing MothNet. Some of my interests are albatrosses and art. I am very excited to go to the MothNet camp at the Orokonui Ecosanctuary, learning lots about moths and also meeting everyone else involved.
My name is Lachie Crawford. I am a year eight student at Waiwera South School. I have been here all of my life. My hobbies are most sports and going to scouts on a Thursday. I joined Kiwi Conservation Club seven years ago and am still part of it now. I am really excited about coming to Orokonui Ecosanctuary and learning all about the MothNet project!
