This programme builds on considerable work carried out to develop and extend a kaupapa Māori-based organics verification and validation system across New Zealand driven by Te Waka Kai Ora (the National Māori Organics Authority of Aotearoa).

Hua Parakore guiding values and principles (Hua Parakore, Te Waka Kai Ora 2012, 2015):

  • Whakapapa – Ngā tikanga o Whakapapa (the principle of natural and genealogical inter-connections between land, people and Ātua) Ko te Hua Parakore te taawharautanga ki te pūtai ao tūtūru.

 

  • Wairua– Ngā tikanga o Wairua (the principle of spiritual health, nourishment and fulfilment, to maintain peace and safety): Ko te Hua Parakore te Kaitiakitanga o te hūmāriretanga me te ora.

 

  • Mana– Ngā tikanga o Mana (the principle of autonomy, equity, security, justice, and self-determination): Ko te Hua Parakore te waka mo te pono me te tika.

 

  • Māramatanga– Ngā tikanga o Māramatanga (the principle of insight and enlightenment): Ko te Hua Parakore te huarahi o te māramatanga mai tawhiti.

 

  • Te Ao Tūroa– Ngā tikanga o Te Ao Tūroa (the principle of natural order, kaitiakitanga, and sustainability): Ma te Hua Parakore e Kaitiaki i ngā Tikanga tuku iho o te maara kai.

 

  • Mauri– Ngā tikanga o Mauri (the principle of the life force and energy, to provide and maintain healthy soils, healthy food and plants, healthy people): Ma te Hua Parakore e kaitiaki te ora o te pae o Papa-tū-ā-nuku, te ora ngā hua me ngā rākau katoa o Tāne, otirā, me te ora o te tinana o ngā tangata katoa.
