Open Geospatial Consortium Technical Committee Meeting
The OGC (Open Geospatial Consortium) is an international not for profit organisation committed to making quality open standards for the global geospatial community. These standards are freely available for anyone to use to improve sharing of the world's geospatial data or data in which location is an important component.
New Zealand organisations - Manaaki Whenua - Landcare Research, NIWA and Horizons Regional Council – are members of the OGC and participate in standards development and uptake in relevant domains: environment, natural hazards, smart cities, agriculture, marine, to name just a few.
To encourage participation in standards development, uptake of standards and connections between OGC members and others working in geospatial and related technologies, the OGC Technical Committees meet in different locations around the world. The December 2017 meeting will be held in Palmerston North, New Zealand – the first time in New Zealand.
In conjunction with the closed technical standards sessions, these meetings provide opportunities for sharing information about the application and use of geospatial standards relevant to the local markets or cultures.
An open summit, Data, Interoperability and Agritech, to be held on Friday 8th, will bring together local and international geospatial experts and end-users for a day of learning and knowledge exchange. It will also be an opportunity for key players from the geospatial industry to learn how standards need to evolve to meet the needs of agriculture.
