Pasifika Summer Internships 2021-22

Do you have Pasifika students looking to grow their skills and career pathways in environmental research and Nationally Significant Collections management?

Manaaki Whenua, New Zealand’s Crown Research Institute for our land and environment, has two paid summer internships (based in Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland and Ōtautahi/Christchurch) for senior Pasifika students on offer this summer to help inspire, motivate and enable a career pathway into environmental science.The internships on offer are:

Ideal students would have interests working in environmental data collection and Te KohingaHekaheka o Aotearoa NZ Fungarium in Auckland to enhance and share the value of Pasifika specimens.

Throughout the internship the student will learn skills in georeferencing, data skills, presentation skills, mycological specimen preparation, research and collection management with exposure to mycological lab and genetic work.

Lincoln - Ōtautahi/Christchurch

Ideal students would have interests working with scientists and researchers to manage the day-to-day operations of the Allan Herbarium, environmental data collection and preservation.

Throughout the internship the student will learn skills of the curation, preparation and handling of plant specimens, data management, georeferencing, photography and online resources,a deeper understanding of plant taxonomy.

Each intern will be mentored through a Pasifika-led programme plan and work along experienced Manaaki Whenua scientists.
