History of EnviroSmart®
The EnviroSmart programme has been developed from two pilot programmes in Auckland and Christchurch. Seven businesses participated in the first pilot programme, called BusinessCare Enviro-Mark,which was developed by North Shore City Council in 2002.
The concept was then expanded by North Shore City Council into a regional pilot programme, which was funded by councils in the Auckland Region, Landcare Research and the Ministry for the Environment. The regional pilot programme, Auckland BusinessCare Enviro-Mark, was launched in 2004 and was completed in October 2006.

These pilot programmes will merge with EnviroSmart and continue as a single nation-wide programme.
Enviro-Mark®NZ is one of a number of environmental management solutions developed, marketed and supported throughout out New Zealand by Landcare Research. Other products include Sustainability Reporting, the Emissions/Biodiversity Exchange 21 project (EBEX 21®) which includes CarbonZero.
