carboNZero certification programme

The carboNZeroCertTM programme and CEMARS™ (Certified Emissions Measurement And Reduction Scheme) are internationally recognised greenhouse gas (GHG) certification schemes - commonly referred to as carbon footprinting.

Developed by Landcare Research, our GHG certification schemes are based on solid science and we are actively working with the World Resources Institute and the International Standards Organisation who are developing global protocols for measuring and reporting carbon footprints.

Both the carboNZero programme and CEMARS certification programmes recognise the actions of businesses and organisations that measure their GHG emissions, understand their carbon liabilities, and put in place management plans to reduce emissions in their organisation and more widely through their supply chain. The carboNZero programme then takes organisations, products, services and events a step further by offering them credible and verified carbon credits to offset their remaining unavoidable emissions.

Reducing GHG emissions is good for the environment and good for business because it requires people to make changes to the way they manage energy, water, waste and biodiversity. Furthermore, in taking up the challenge to reduce GHG emissions, businesses are setting out on a sustainability journey that will bring many other benefits. Landcare Research’s certification programmes allow businesses to accurately measure their carbon footprint, increase marketing value, demonstrate leadership, identify cost savings opportunities and add credibility to environmental initiatives they undertake.
