The Green Toolbox - Installation Instructions

The Green Toolbox runs under Windows 95/98 and Windows NT 4, and is installed to a directory, on the local hard drive, that you nominate during the installation procedure.  The database for the software is normally held in \data duirectory in the main installation directory.  However you may choose a different directory to facillitate sharing the database with other users.

  1. Before installing The Green Toolbox, please close all applications running on Windows.

  2. If installing from a distribution CD, insert the CD into your CD drive [x], and from within Windows, select Run from the Start menu, type [x]:\ [name of executable], then press <Enter> or click OK to begin installation.

    Example: If your CD drive is D and you are installing The Green Toolbox Species Selector, the name of executable is GTB_Species.exe, then

                 type D:\GTB_Species.exe

  3. If installing from a zip file which you have downloaded, first unzip the file to a harddrive using your favourite zip package. This will give you an executable file (.exe). Then select Run from the Start menu, type [x]:\[name of executable], then press <Enter> or click OK to begin installation.

    Example: If you have downloaded the file GTB_Species.zip onto your C drive temp directory, unzip it, then type: C:\temp\GTB_Species.exe.

  4. On the form with title "Welcome", click on the Next button.

  5. On the form with title "License Agreement", click on the Yes button.

  6. On the form with title "Choose Destination Location", click on the Next button to accept the default folder, or click the Browse button to choose one you prefer.

  7. On the form with title "Setup Type" click the Next button.

  8. On the form with title "Select Program Folder" choose one you prefer, then click the Next button.

  9. On the form with title "Start Copying Files" click the Next button.

  10. When the installation is complete, choose "Yes, I want to restart my computer now", then click Finish.

  11. Wait until your machine starts again.

  12. After The Green Toolbox installation is complete, double click the icon with the name The Green Toolbox on the desktop, to open the software.

  13. On the main form, choose File, then Data Manager.

  14. Choose the drive and directory where the database for The Green Toolbox is to be located, then click OK. Normally you would the use default value provided.

  15. Double click on The Green Toolbox desktop icon to launch the software.  Use the F1 key to access the online documentation for user instructions.

Installation issues

On some networked installations, difficulties can arise. Ensure you have the correct authorisation level before attempting to install the software.
