IntSci moderators: Guide for conference participation
1 March 2006
Dear IntSci E-conference participants,
How to Contribute
You can send a message to all the participants by sending your messages to
IntSci@learningforsustainability.net. The discussion will also be automatically archived on our website at http://mail.learningforsustainability.net/pipermail/intsci_learningforsustainability.net/, so that you can easily find and refer to earlier messages.
Please remember that this discussion is ‘unmoderated’ in the sense that any message you send to the list will automatically go directly to everyone on the list. With that in mind we would like to make some general reminders to support constructive conversation over the next two weeks:
- Participants should preferably introduce themselves briefly in their first posting (1-2 sentences only).
- Messages should be relevant to the topic being discussed.
- Please treat each other with respect.
- Try to keep postings concise and short. Maximum should be no more than two screens long. It is worth remembering that you can post multiple times, so try not to say it all in one e-mail.
- E-mail attachments will not be posted to the e-conference participants. Articles, longer messages, and library submissions can be sent to the moderators at IntSci-owner@learningforsustainability.net and we can put it in the on-line reference page.
- Not everything needs to be sent to the whole list. Personal discussions and short, or one-line messages such as "thanks for the info" are best not posted to the list, but should be sent to the intended recipient directly.
- Please contact the list moderators at IntSci-owner@learningforsustainability.net directly about anything related to this discussion and we will do what we can to help.
Your contribution is valuable
We know that the above statement is somewhat trite. Without your contribution the discussion would have no value. However, we do think that it is worth reminding participants that there are many ways that you can participate in the discussion, and we encourage you to take advantage of as many as possible.
- First and foremost is: contribute your experience to the discussion. This is a friendly, supportive, and open discussion.
- Ask questions! It is by seeking clarity across perspectives that we all learn.
- We encourage you to present examples or case studies from your own experience, and especially to tell about lessons you or your colleagues have learned while engaged in integrative science initiatives.
- Let us know about upcoming events in your area of practice, or new information sources of use to those interested in integrative science initiatives.
- Send us case studies, reports, or bibliographies to include in the on-line reference list for the e-conference
- Tell us about other discussion lists, databases, or electronic sites which you have found useful.
- Share the information and discussions on this list with colleagues who are not on e-mail.
- Work with other participants to form partnerships at the local, regional, and global levels.
Above all, let us know how to make these electronic discussions more effective. All suggestions are welcome!
Moderator postings
Where the conference managers have a clarification or process posting to make which is concerned with the moderation of the discussion we will clearly mark it with the word Moderator. In other circumstances we will post as individuals, with our own stories.
