NZ Moss Flora: Sample Plates

Atrichum androgynum (Müll.Hal.) A.Jaeger (Polytrichaceae). An Austral species in a genus known to most bryologists. This species is widespread throughout the main islands of New Zealand.

Fallaciella sp. nov. (Sematophyllaceae). An undescribed, apparently endemic species in a genus of Austral distribution. This species occurs in the species-rich mountains of the northwest corner of the South Island.

Pleurophascum grandiglobum var. decurrens Sainsbury (Pleurophascaceae). The New Zealand representative of a small Australasian genus of uncertain affinities. The New Zealand plant will be given specific status in a pending publication.

Buxbaumia aphylla and Buxbaumia novae-zelandiae (Buxbaumiaceae). A widely recognised genus including one bipolar species and one apparent New Zealand endemic. Both species occur at scattered localities on the main islands of New Zealand.

Schistidium rivulare var. subflexifolium (Müll.Hal.) comb. nov. (in press) (Grimmiaceae). An endemic subalpine variety in a widely recognised genus. The species has a bipolar distribution.

Ephemeropsis trentepohlioides (Renner) Sainsbury (Ephemeropsaceae). A highly reduced, hookeriaceous, twig-inhabiting Australasian species, which occurs in high-rainfall localities on the main islands of New Zealand.
