The included keys will enable any leafhopper genus or species currently recorded from New Zealand to be identified. The checkslists provide valid names and synonymies for all species as well as digital images for the majority of taxa.
Links to useful references and to the NSW Agriculture website maintaining information on the Australian fauna, are included in the keys and checklists as appropriate. Additional supporting characters are sometimes given between square brackets in the keys.
Confirmation of identifications, requiring dissection of the genitalia of male specimens, may need to be carried out (ideally by a specialist cicadellid taxonomist). Standard methodologies for this are presented under methods.
