Introduction
This key will enable any treehopper (Membracidae) or leafhopper (Cicadellidae) genus and several species found in New Zealand to be identified.
Links to useful references supporting species identification are included as appropriate. Additional helpful diagnostic characters are sometimes given between brackets.
Confirmation of identifications, requiring dissection of the genitalia of male specimens, needs to be carried out by a leafhopper specialist.
