Introduction
This checklist is based on Larochelle & Larivière's (2001) catalogue of Carabidae (Fauna of New Zealand 43) and (2007) synopsis of supraspecific taxa (Fauna of New Zealand 60, Appendix B ).
The checklist is updated regularly in order to keep up with the literature. Detailed information on taxonomic changes made between 2001 and 2007 can be found in Larochelle & Larivière (2007: Fauna of New Zealand 60, Appendix C).
Images of New Zealand ground-beetles and a bibliography of papers (Bibliography) published since 2001 are also provided.
The composition of the New Zealand carabid fauna currently stands at 5 subfamilies, 21 tribes, 93 genera and 518 species and subspecies.
