Auckland Island

New Zealand fungal Herbarium (PDD) from specimens Auckland Island

A short, superficial visit to two sites in the vicinity of Port Ross at the northern end of the Auckland Islands suggested that fungi are far more diverse here than on Campbell Island. The xylariaceous wood—rotting ascomycetes appeared to be particularly diverse, as diverse here as anywhere in New Zealand.

A future, intensive expedition is planned for the Auckland Islands, as part of our ongoing research on fungal and beetle diversity on the islands of the Campbell Plateau.
