New Zealand sites

The New Zealand Plant Names Database is maintained by the Herbarium at Landcare Research

A comprehensive list of weeds, and fact sheets on their identification and control – is maintained by Bay of Plenty Regional Council. Auckland Regional Council and the Department of Conservation.

The Tussocks Website has information on the management of Hieracium species and best practices for managing that problem. A section on weed control in tussock grasslands provides good links that help in understanding how to control a range of weeds, including broom, gorse, sweet briar, blackberry, hieracium, ragwort, old man's beard, thistles and nassella tussock.

NZ Landcare Trust:An organisation involved in facilitating Landcare Groups throughout NZ, this website provides a range of information on weed control.

ERMA The Environmental Risk Management Authority of New Zealandadministers the requirements of the HSNO legislation and approves or disapproves the importation of biocontrol agents.

Weedbusters A public awareness and education programme aimed at reducing the threat of invasive weeds to New Zealand's natural environment.

International sites

The Hawaiian Ecosystems at Risk Site provides information about a wide range of weeds. In particular their global compendium of weeds, a good list of full text articles available online, and some good links make this a site worth visiting.

The Invasive Species Specialist Group (ISSG) is part of the Species Survival Commission (SSC) of the World Conservation Union (IUCN) global group of 146 scientific and policy experts on invasive species from 41 countries.

CSIRO, Australia's leading science research organisation, has information about biocontrol programmes being developed for weeds in Australia

The CSIRO European Laboratory researches biological control of weeds and other pests with their target being pests in Australia.

Part of the Victoria State Government in Australia, DPI has responsibility for the management of the states natural resources. Their publications list includes Landcare notes which provide some resources on a range of weeds and biological control organisms.

The Cooperative Research Centre for Weed Management Systems (CRC). Although the Weeds CRC is no longer in existence, a lot of good information is still available on this website until 2010.

Weeds Australia Includes a national strategy for managing weeds of national significance.

Cornell University Biocontrol Site based in the USA, a biocontrol site with links to The National Agricultural Pest Information System (NAPIS) which indexes a range of weed pests. This site also provides good links to other USA and European biocontrol sites

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has information about a range of weeds and comprehensive links to other websites where this informationis held.
