Tui in my Backyard

Landcare Research in Hamilton is conducting a study to learn more about the abundance, movement and diet of tui in the central Waikato. We hope that this project will result in planting and pest management strategies that increase the presence of tui in Hamilton city and in the surrounding countryside.

During 2001-03, we were sent many accounts of tui visiting Waikato properties and what plants they fed on. Now, the researchers hope to catch and band tui to follow their movements.Tui, photo by Neil Fitzgerald

We have written a newsletter describing both project phases.
