The Directors of Landcare Research New Zealand Limited (Manaaki Whenua) are pleased to report that the company fulfilled its obligations under the Crown Research Institutes Act 1992 for the year ended 30 June 2004. The disclosures relate to Landcare Research New Zealand Limited and its subsidiaries.


Principal activity

The principal activity of the group is to conduct scientific research focusing on the sustainable management of land based natural resources.

Operating results

Group Revenue for the year increased to $45.166 million from $42.678 million in the previous year.

The Group Operating Surplus decreased to $1.637 million from $3.461 million in 2002/03; and the consolidated Net Deficit after tax attributable to parent company shareholders was $5,000 compared to a deficit of $237,000 in 2002/03.

The group has made various donations totalling $2,550 during the year ($17,600 in 2002/03)

Auditors

Audit New Zealand has been appointed the agent of the Auditor General in accordance with S21 of the Crown Research Institutes Act 1992. Remuneration paid to Audit New Zealand in 2003/04 totalled $59,000 ($52,000 in 2002/03) for audit work only.
