About Us
Manaaki Whenua is a research, technology development, and consultancy business. Services are focused on sustainable development of New Zealand’s terrestrial resources in natural, primary production and urban environments. We are a government-owned, tax-paying company — one of nine independent Crown Research Institutes (CRIs). We have nearly 400 staff at nine locations. Sirtrack Ltd, our subsidiary company, produces telemetry equipment for tracking wildlife.
Manaaki Whenua is majority owner of Fertility Control Ltd, which holds intellectual property for fertility control of possums.
Scope of the report
In this sustainability report, we try to show our progress towards achieving our mission. Performance indicators are summarised, with more detailed information elsewhere in the report and on our website.
We have also summarised our performance in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), which is rapidly becoming the international standard for sustainability reporting.
Our report has been verified by external auditors who examined all indicators reported, including how and why we measured that aspect of our performance. The audit process included interviews with staff who provided indicator data.
The indicators do not include our subsidiaries (Sirtrack Ltd and Fertility Control Ltd) unless specifically stated. We have not attempted to report on the sustainability performance of our suppliers.
Photographers are Manaaki Whenua staff unless otherwise stated.
We had no cause to adopt an advocacy role in 2003/04.
