Business development
The business development team is often the first port-of-call for clients and research partners, and we help ensure that the best team of appropriate scientists is gathered to consider and respond to requirements. Much of our work is multi-disciplinary, and the need to understand and then translate complex scientific questions is critical to our ability to deliver the results our clients need.
The business development team works closely with scientific leadership and individual scientists to know what, where and how they can contribute to both specialist and multi-disciplinary projects undertaken.
Business development managers help with contractual negotiations and then often oversee the project from start-to-finish, keeping you informed of progress, unravelling issues as they arise, and advising on commercial opportunities where appropriate.
Commercialisation
Research sometimes leads us to the development of innovative products which are useful and valuable to others; the business development team decides on the appropriate commercialisation and marketing of these products and services.
An example of this is COSTnz, a web-based application which helps council staff and engineers compare the whole-of-life costs associated with different approaches to stormwater management. COSTnz will be available in May 2009.
Sustainable Māori futures
Developing land-based resources is of critical importance for Māori; often requiring a greater understanding of the social and cultural values which work in tandem with economic benefits. Marino Tahi, Māori Partnership Manager is able to guide the direction of research to ensure it properly answers the questions posed by Māori.
Consultancy
While our prime purpose is to conduct research for the benefit of New Zealand, we sometimes find that business, industry bodies and government need our assistance to explore a relevant issue of specific interest to them.
Tool, services and products
Many research projects create useful tools that play a part in the research - but then prove useful to other researchers or end-users. You will find the complete list of tools, services and products can be found in the Services section of our website.
