Our Environmental Policy
This policy was superceded by our Sustainability Policy in June 2004.
The Guiding Philosophy of Landcare Research sets out the environmental and other principles to which the company subscribes. Our strategic intent is 'to make a difference for a truly clean and green New Zealand'. Landcare Research is committed to the protection and enhancement of the environment, and our core business is research, consultancy, technical services and technology development. We assist our clients in developing ecologically and socially sustainable policies, management strategies and systems, for land-based natural resources and the wider environment. It is our policy to conduct all activities with a high standard of environmental care, transfer knowledge to our clients, and bring our influence to bear on environmental matters. We will:
- strive to continually improve our environmental performance, by establishing objectives and targets, carrying out regular audits and acting on complaints and incidents
- minimise consumption of resources and minimise waste
- minimise and mitigate the adverse effects of our activities on the environment
- minimise the likelihood of accidental discharges of pollutants, and have contingency plans in place to deal with these where they occur
- comply with all relevant environmental legislation
- favour the purchasing of more sustainable goods and services
- align our environmental, health & safety, and quality management processes
- foster the capability of our staff to understand and reduce their environmental impacts at work and at home, in particular through support of our sustainability groups
- influence central and local government on environmental matters
- report our environmental performance in our triple bottom line Annual Report
- communicate our strategic intent to the wider community
- encourage other organisations to improve their environmental performance.
We intend to eliminate and/or offset our adverse environmental impacts in the longer term.
This policy covers all activities undertaken by Landcare Research personnel in the field and at our research sites.
