The Allan Mere was gifted by Dr Lucy Moore to New Zealand botany, to commemorate the work of early botanist HHB Allan. It is awarded from time-to-time by the New Zealand Botanical Society to outstanding botanists to acknowledge their contribution and work. It is displayed in the entrance to the Allan Herbarium at the Manaaki Whenua Lincoln office.

The mere was carved at Westland Greenstone Ltd, in Hokitika.

The label reads:

He koha tēnēi nā Tākuta Lucy Moore mai te rua tekau mā whitu i ngā rā o Paenga Whāhwā, i te tau kotahi mano, iwa rau, waru tekau mā rua, hei whakamaharatanga ki a Tākuta HHB Allan mo ōna mahi whakahirahira e pā ana ki te mātauranga huaota o Aotearoa. I hoatungia tēnei taonga mai te whakamaharatanga o te kotahi rau o ōna huri tau.

Gifted by Dr Lucy Moore on 27 April 1982 to commemorate the outstanding contributions to New Zealand botany of Dr H.H.B. Allan, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his birth.
